Advantages Of Felt Board Storytelling

Yesterday I showed you my beautiful new felt board gingerbread village. The kids are having a lot enjoyable singing the music, reading the book, and retelling the story with their new felt pieces. As intricate because the pieces in this story are, there's such simplicity in felt board stories. It takes me back to a time when WE had to tell the story. Don’t get me incorrect, I really like technology. We now have apps for storytelling, books on CD or the ipod, and Tag readers that do everything for us. I like all of these things, however as soon as in a while, it’s nice to slow down and let the kids be in control of the story telling.

I get pleasure from sitting back, and listening to the language abilities that kids want to make use of as they are storytelling. They're talking, listening, creating their vocaulary, and calling upon reading abilities that we now have been studying in class. If they are retelling a familiar story, they're utilizing their listening and memorization skills. Creating their own story includes thinking about cause and impact, problem fixing, exploring relationsips, manners, and cooperation.

There may be a lot creativity involved in felt board storytelling. In early childhood, play is a child’s primary avenue for exploration and learning. Play stretches the imagination by way of arms on learning, in a visual, auditory, and tactile way.

There are a lot of fantastic concepts for different ways to make use of the felt board. We’ve used felt boards within the classroom to show math concepts, colours, matching games, sorting actions, seasons, and plenty of different concepts. Storytelling tends to be my favorite use for felt boards. I think I’m going to see if my daughter might wish to make a number of felt tales with over the break. I know she’d love reducing up fabric scraps to decorate a gingerbread house.

Felt boards are extremely inexpensive to make and children love exploring with stories and felt pieces.

Happy story telling!
